Types of vessels eligible for registration
A wide variety of commercial vessels are listed in the Madeira Ship Register. The types of vessels that can be registered at MAR are:
Cargo ships: This category includes bulk carriers, general cargo carriers and container ships. MAR welcomes cargo vessels of all types, contributing to its comprehensive registry status.
Passenger ships: MAR accepts registration of passenger ships, including cruise ships and ro-ro (roll-on/roll-off) ships. The register ensures the safety and compliance of passenger ships, enabling smooth operations in EU waters.
Barges: MAR mainly accepts barges, which are flat-bottomed vessels used to transport goods on inland waterways. The registry's inclusion of barges reflects its commitment to providing comprehensive registry services.
Tugs and assistance vessels: MAR allows the registration of tugs and other assistance vessels. These ships play an important role in supporting maritime operations and ensuring the safety of larger ships.
Platforms/rigs: Both fixed and floating platforms and rigs can be registered with MAR. The registry's acceptance of these specialized vessels demonstrates its versatility and commitment to serving the marine industry.
